Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park

Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park covers high Southern Alps country: peaks, névé, valley glaciers and braided rivers around New Zealand’s highest mountain. From the village roads you sample trailheads and valley views. From a helicopter or ski plane the park reads as one continuous alpine system — Aoraki / Mount Cook, the Tasman Glacier, Tasman Terminal Lake and high landing country toward the Liebig Range — on shared flights from the Mount Cook Airport area. The Aoraki / Mount Cook hub is built around those park flights, separate from West Coast Fox and Franz Josef hubs.

The Aoraki / Mount Cook Tasman 25-Minute Helicopter Tour is the shortest shared look: about 25 minutes in an AS350 Squirrel, from NZ$379 per person, through the Tasman Valley, over the terminal lake, and onto Brass Peak or Liebig Dome when conditions allow. The Aoraki / Mount Cook Glacier 45-Minute Ski Plane and Helicopter Tour stretches to about 45 minutes, from NZ$599 per person, combining ski plane and helicopter with a Tasman Glacier stop and aircraft change on the snow. The Aoraki / Mount Cook Glacier Highlights 45-Minute Ski Plane Tour is about 45 minutes in a Pilatus Porter, from NZ$699 per person, with a Tasman Glacier snow stop on the same weather rules.

All three are scenic shared flights inside the park. They fly past and beside Aoraki rather than claiming to land on Aoraki’s summit or cross its tip. Snow and glacier landings run only when conditions allow; the short helicopter’s alpine pad may be rocky when snow cover is thin. On-snow time is typically about 10–15 minutes on the snow when a landing happens. Minimums apply before a flight operates (often 4; 8 on the combo).

Do not treat these tickets as Hooker Valley walks, landings on Mueller ice, or departures from Queenstown, Milford or the West Coast glaciers. Meeting, takeoff and return are at Mount Cook Airport on State Highway 80. Live commentary is listed on the helicopter and combo products; the ski plane seats up to about 9.

Meet at Mount Cook Airport on State Highway 80, about a five-minute drive before Aoraki / Mount Cook Village. Free car parking is available at the airport. There is no hotel pickup — make your own way. The same airport is used for check-in, takeoff and return. The exact flight time is confirmed after booking. Check-in typically closes 30 minutes before departure. Wear a warm jacket and shoes suitable for standing on snow; bring sunglasses and a camera. Drones and selfie sticks are not allowed. Children of all ages are welcome and must fly with an adult. Infants may sit on a caregiver’s lap; a seat is still allocated and charged. Individual passenger weight is generally limited to about 116 kg for aircraft balance; guests may be weighed at check-in.

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before for a full refund. Mountain weather changes quickly. Flights and snow or glacier landings depend on visibility and surface conditions. If a flight cannot operate, you can usually reschedule or claim a refund under the free-cancellation and weather policy on your booking. Flights sell year-round on the live calendar, weather permitting. Start with the Tasman 25-minute helicopter tour on the Aoraki / Mount Cook hub for a short alpine park overview, or choose a 45-minute glacier ticket when snow underfoot on the Tasman is the goal. Live prices are shown when you book.
