Hike up the glacier, through the rainforest
This Glacier in the southern Alps was named after Sir William Fox, who was the Prime Minister of New Zealand between 1896 and 1872. The glacier descends from the Southern Alps and stretches 2600 meters down into the forest which sits around 300 metres above sea level. The temperate climate of this glacier makes it one of the easiest glaciers to access and explore. The glacier is fed by 30 metres of snowfall every year which compacts into the deep blue ice that make it such a stunning site.
Most hikes up the glacier will take you through the rainforest where you have a chance to spot Kea's, which are green parrots native to the surrounding rainforest.
