The island of Pampus is for the cat near Muiden.
About 200 years ago, this island was built by people, something the Dutch are very good at. The island was built so that a fortress could be built on it and the construction was finished in 1895. The island of Pampus is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The original plan for this island was to build a fortress island off the coast of Muiden, right in the middle of the passage. This allowed the harbour of Muiden to serve as a defensive harbour for soldiers who were stationed on the island. Later, the VOC used the island and its fortress to treat its sailors to soap, vine and women. Because they were afraid that the sailors would no longer be allowed to go on a sea voyage from their family if they spent their money on it themselves.
