The capital of The Netherlands can be traced back all the way to the 12th century when a fishing village was established on the banks of the Amstel River.
Which turned into one of the most prosperous cities in the world in the 17th century. Amsterdam became a centre of culture and art that is well known for its canals, narrow streets and colourful houses. The canals in Amsterdam are actually part of the UNESCO World Heritage list. When visiting Amsterdam there are many museums that deserve a visit like the Anne Frank museum, the Rijksmuseum, the scheepvaartmuseum and the Van Gogh museum.
