Temppeliaukio church is a Lutheran church which is located in the Töölö neighbourhood of Helsinki.
In 1930 a plot of land was selected and a contest for the design of the church was held, however the plans were interrupted by World War II. A second competition was held in 1961 which was won by the architect-brothers Tuomo and Timo Suomalainen. However their original design was scaled down for economic reasons to around 25% of it’s originally intended size. Construction of the church began in 1968 and finished in 1969. Temppeliaukio church is built directly into solid rocks, it is also known as the Rock Church.
