The shared Helicopter Glacier Landing and the private tour (up to six) both land. Shared can be more than one helicopter on the same ice; private is your ship. About 15 minutes in each way. You walk. You do not dogsled. You do not stay strapped in unless you use the ADA lift, in which case the doors open and you take the glacier from the cabin.
You do not land in town and you do not land on Mendenhall. Boots are at the hangar. Rain gear if the day needs it. The ice is colder than the harbour. No bags in the cabin unless a medical need was noted when you booked.
The extra of private is the empty seats around you, not a longer walk. The extra over a South Rim-style overflight is that you stand on the ice at all. Queenstown has an alpine landing; that is rock. This is glacier.
Herbert Glacier is the pad. The Juneau Icefield is the approach. Crevasses are the ground under the walk. Tongass is the forest you crossed to get here.
Every guest is weighed. No lap children. Six standard seats per helicopter; larger shared groups split and meet on the ice. Seasonal. If the operator cancels for weather, you are moved or refunded as shown when you book. Cruise guests need a 45-minute buffer on the ship’s clock.
