A man-made archipelago that resembles a map of the world.
The World Islands are a man-made archipelago located off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. They were developed as part of a large-scale real estate project in the city, and are shaped to resemble a map of the world when viewed from above.
The World Islands were completed in 2008, however, work on the archipelago had been suspended due to the global financial crisis. Resulting in the erosion of the islands and many of the passageways connecting them. Only one house, a show residence, was built on the archipelago. And in 2012 the Royal Island beach club opened as well, which is located on Lebanon Island.
