The Östermalm district has a rich history that dates back to the late 17th century.
It was originally a rural area but began to develop into an urban district in the early 19th century. The Östermalm district is known for its grandiose architecture, which includes buildings such as the Royal Palace, the National Museum, and the Stockholm Concert Hall. It is one of the most affluent areas in the country and one of the most expensive in the world. The district is located on the eastern side of Djurgården, the island in central Stockholm that contains a large number of attractions, including amusement parks, theatres, museums, and restaurants.
The Östermalm district has a population of approximately 23,000 people. It is divided into two parts: Östermalmstorg and Sveavägen. Östermalmstorg is the district's commercial centre, while Sveavägen is its residential area. The Östermalm district is served by the Stockholm Metro, with stations at Östermalmstorg, Tjurbergsgatan, Vasastan, and Karlaplan.
