One of the most beautiful lakes of New Zealand
Lake Hawea is one of the most stunning lakes in New Zealand, located just 8 kilometres north of Queenstown on the South Island. It lies between the hills and mountains and is separated only by the thin strip of land "the neck" from the almost equally beautiful Lake Wanaka. Lake Hawea's water is a beautiful clear blue and is perfect for salmon and trout fishing.
If you're in for some more active pursuits, there are also plenty of water sports, such as sailing, surfing and swimming, available on this lake. And the lake is also a great to camp int he free camping areas. A walk along the lake is recommended. There are several hikes through the beautiful surroundings that sometimes go through rugged sections and lead to Lake Wanaka as well.
