Lisse may not sound very familiar, but it is the village where Keukenhof is located.
And we all know this location. The Keukenhof in Lisse is known worldwide for its fields full of tulips and windmills. Every spring, visitors from all over the world flock to these fields to admire the more than 800 varieties of tulips on 32 hectares of land. The Keukenhof Castle was built in 1641 and landscape architects Jan David Zocher and his son designed the Keukenhof as we know it in 1857. They also designed the Amsterdam Vondelpark. In 1949 a group of flower bulb growers made a plan to exhibit flower bulbs here and since then the Keukenhof as we know it has emerged.
