Erg Chebbi's Dunes

Erg Chebbi is a desert area which is located in the eastern region of Morocco

and one of the two dune areas of the country, which is called an Erg. The Erg Chebbi is about 25 kilometres long and 8 kilometres wide. These seas of wind-blown sand dunes are a very popular tourist attraction and the dunes can rise to 150 meters in height.

Erg Chebbi’s dunes has a tourist centre accompanied by a range of hotels and other amenities on the west side of the dune. Here you can book a camelback trip into the dunes or arrange for a camping trip in one of the many camps located inside the Erg.

During the summer, locals use these dunes for rheumatic treatments. Where they will be buried neck-deep in the warm sand for a few minutes at a time.
