Casablanca is another city on the west coast of Morocco. In Spanish, the name of this city literally translates to ‘White House’.
The city of Casablanca has around 4 million inhabitants, making it the largest city in Morocco. And because of its strategic location on the Atlantic Ocean, it is also the most important harbour of the country.
One of the most impressive structures in the city is the Hassan II-Mosque, which was built by the order of king Kassan the second and was finished in 1993. The mosque is very close to the old Medina and offers a stunning view across the Atlantic Ocean.
The city we now know as Casablanca used to be a Berber settlement named Anfa until the 16th century when the name was changed to Casablanca.
