A lagoon amidst the city
The Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas is a lagune located in the southern part of Rio de Janeiro in the middle of the Lagoa Neighbourhood. The 850-meter-long canal that connects the lagune to the sea also marks the border of the Ipanema and Leblon beaches.
Two islands are located in this lagune. The first island is Ilha do Piraquê which houses the Departamento Esportivo do Club Naval, which is a military club. The second island in the lagoon is Ilha dos Caiçaras, which is close to the canal and houses a private watersport club.
