The iconic bridge that brought central and northern Sydney together.
The Harbour Bridge is a road and railway bridge connecting both sides of the harbour, to make the northern part of Sydney more accessible. The harbour bridge was opened in 1932 after six years of construction. The structure contains six million hand-hammered rivets, ensuring a lot of people at the time had jobs. The bridge is 1149 meters long with an arch span of 503 meters. It is not the longest arch bridge in the world, but it is the widest. With 8 lanes to accommodate traffic, two train tacks, a footpath and a path for cyclists.
There is a toll required to cross the bridge with a vehicle, which is around three Australian dollars for a round trip. But the bridge is free to cross on foot and on a bicycle.
