Whistler Helicopter Tour: Glaciers, Black Tusk and a Landing on the Ice

A Whistler helicopter tour lifts you off the valley floor and into glacier country within minutes. On the longer routes you may see the volcanic peak of Black Tusk, the water of Garibaldi Lake and the ice of Cheakamus Glacier. Shorter flights head for Wedgemount Lake or fly over the resort, with the Peak 2 Peak Gondola strung between Whistler and Blackcomb.

If you want to stand on the ice, one flight adds a landing of about 15 minutes on a glacier on Rainbow Mountain when conditions allow. And if you would rather take off from the water, there is a scenic seaplane from Green Lake.

Six flights are live on the Whistler hub: five shared helicopters from the Whistler Heliport and one shared seaplane. Only the mountain-landing flight lands.

Which Whistler helicopter tour to book

Want the shortest, cheapest look at the ice? Take the 14-minute flight. Want Black Tusk and Garibaldi Lake without paying for a landing? Book the 25-minute flight. Want to step out onto a glacier? Only the mountain-landing flight does that. Want a floatplane take-off from the lake? Choose the seaplane.

Before you go

  • Where: there are two meeting places. Helicopters leave from the Whistler Heliport hangars on Heliport Road; arrive about 20 minutes before your slot. The seaplane leaves from the Green Lake floatplane dock, steps from the Jack Nicklaus Clubhouse at Nicklaus North; its listing asks you to check in about 40 minutes before departure. Your voucher names the exact place and the time is confirmed after booking.
  • Group size: helicopters seat up to about five, and empty seats may be sold to other guests. The Village and Blackcomb flight and the mountain-landing flight need at least two passengers to go.
  • Children and ID: helicopter age bands start at age 2. Seaplane child fares cover ages 2 to 11, and adults 18 and over need government photo ID for the seaplane.
  • Weight and bags: no passenger weight limit is published for the helicopters. The seaplane listing allows about 25 lb of baggage.
  • Landings: only on the mountain-landing flight, and only when weather allows. All other flights are continuous overflights.
  • Cancellation: full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled start. Cloud, wind and alpine weather can cancel flights, with a refund or rebooking.
