A Napa Valley hot air balloon flight lifts off at sunrise from Yountville and lets the wind carry you over the Napa Valley vineyards, between about 1,000 and 3,000 feet when the day allows. Below you are rows of vines, around you the Napa hills, and on a clear morning Mount St. Helena.
You stand in an open basket for about 40 minutes to an hour, sometimes a little longer, and see as much of Napa as the wind allows. San Francisco and the Sierra are possible on a favorable wind, but they are not a promise.
What you see on a Napa Valley hot air balloon flight
On most clear mornings you launch from the lot next to where you check in, in Yountville, and rise over the vineyards and the hills around them. When the air is clear, Mount St. Helena comes into view.
On foggy mornings the launch moves to the northern part of the valley, about a 45-minute shuttle away. You still check in at the same place, and the operator drives you there.
The Napa Valley balloon flight on the hub
The Napa Valley hub has one flight: the Napa Valley Hot Air Balloon Adventure with Napa Valley Aloft, from USD 288 per person in a shared, small-group basket. The morning runs about 4.5 hours all in.
- Included: coffee and pastries at check-in, the flight, and the van back from the landing site. A complimentary shuttle within Yountville is available if you need it; put your hotel at checkout.
- Not included: gratuities, and brunch in town afterwards is your own.
- In the basket: you stand for the whole flight and there are no doors, so you need to be able to climb in and out.
Before you go
- Where: Napa Valley Aloft at The Estate / V Marketplace (Vintage 1870), 6525 Washington Street, Yountville, CA 94599. Passengers park free at V Marketplace.
- Timing: meeting times are early, typically 5:30–7:00 depending on the season, and the exact time for your morning shows when you book. Allow about 4.5 hours.
- Who can fly: not under 6, and children 6 and older should be at least 48 inches (4 feet) tall to see over the basket. Not for pregnancy, mobility impairment, wheelchair users, recent surgery, vertigo or fear of heights. There is no published weight cap.
- Weather: balloons fly only in suitable weather, so book ahead. If weather cancels, you are rescheduled or refunded as shown when you book.
- Cancellation: currently free up to 2 days before departure. No-shows and late arrivals are charged in full.
