An Uluru helicopter tour lifts off from Yulara and gives you the Red Centre from above: Uluru first, Kata Tjuta on the longer flights, and on the longest one Lake Amadeus. The four flights on the Uluru hub run from 15 to 55 minutes, and hotel pickup from the resort is included.
One thing to know before you picture it: National Parks rules mean these flights do not fly over the tops of Uluru or Kata Tjuta and do not go all the way round either one. You see both from the air, but not straight down onto the summit.
Four Uluru helicopter tours, from 15 to 55 minutes
- Uluru 15-Minute Helicopter Tour, from A$195 per person. Uluru from the air through bubble windows, with Mount Conner also listed among the highlights. If the confirmed time moves by 30 minutes or more, a full refund is listed.
- Uluru Kata Tjuta 25-Minute Helicopter Tour, from A$315 per person. Uluru and Kata Tjuta from the air, with round-trip air-conditioned bus pickup and English commentary listed.
- Uluru Grand View Sunset 36-Minute Helicopter Tour, from A$415 per person. A sunset flight over Uluru and Kata Tjuta, including the western face of Kata Tjuta, Walpa Gorge and Valley of the Winds as the circuit allows.
- Uluru Lake Amadeus 55-Minute Helicopter Tour, from A$745 per person. Lake Amadeus first, then Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Allow about 90 minutes with pickup. Sunrise, day or sunset times are shown when you book.
If you only want the rock, the 15-minute flight is the entry price. Twenty-five minutes is the shortest that adds Kata Tjuta. The 36-minute sunset flight is the one to pick for evening light and the gorges, and the 55-minute flight is for Lake Amadeus on top of both.
Before you go
- Pickup: included from listed Ayers Rock Resort properties in Yulara: Sails in the Desert, Outback Hotel and Resort, Desert Gardens Hotel, and the campground bus stop on the ring road. Some listings for the 55-minute flight exclude Emu Walk Apartments. The exact helipad is confirmed when you book.
- Timing: times on the ticket are approximate until the operator confirms your flight and pickup.
- Minimum numbers: most tickets need at least two people, and the 55-minute flight currently lists three. Solo seats are paired with others. If the minimum is not met, a refund is listed.
- Weight: 125 kg / 275 lbs is the listed limit, and everyone is weighed. Some tickets are marked not suitable over that weight; on others you need an extra seat or a direct booking so a seat can be assigned.
- Access: these flights are listed as not suitable for people with mobility impairments, because you board without assistance using steps. Wear closed-toe shoes. Infants sit on a lap, and age limits are confirmed before payment.
- Weather and cancellation: if weather stops the flight, you are offered another time or a refund. Cancelling is currently a full refund at least 24 hours before departure.
