El Calafate Helicopter Tour: 20 Minutes Over the Perito Moreno Glacier

An El Calafate helicopter tour shows you the Perito Moreno Glacier from above: about 20 minutes in the air, looking down on the ice instead of up at it from the walkways. When the route allows, you may also see the Canal de los Témpanos, the Magallanes Peninsula and the Ameghino Glacier, with Patagonian wind and weather deciding how the pilot flies on the day.

From the shore you see the glacier face in front of you. From the helicopter you see the ice, the water of the Canal de los Témpanos and the Magallanes Peninsula together, in one sweep. If you have only a day or two in El Calafate and want one view that puts it all together, this is the flight for it.

The Patagonia / El Calafate hub has one flight live right now, so the choice is simple.

The Perito Moreno helicopter tour from El Calafate

Pick it if you want the glacier from the air rather than from the shore, and you are happy to share the cabin with other guests. If you also want to walk on the ice, that is a separate trip this hub does not sell.

Before you go

  • Where: the El Calafate Heliport near town. Hotel pickup is not included, so plan your own way there. Arrive about 30 minutes before your slot unless your voucher says otherwise; the exact time is confirmed after booking.
  • Group size: a shared small-group helicopter, so you may fly with other guests. No minimum group size or seat count is stated on the listing.
  • Who can fly: no minimum age and no passenger weight limit are published. You may still be asked for weights when you book. Bring photo ID in case the heliport asks for it.
  • Landings: none. This is a scenic overflight.
  • Weather: wind and low cloud can cancel or shorten flights here. If conditions are not suitable, you get a refund or rebooking path, so keep a spare day in your plans.
  • Cancellation: full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled start.
