This early-morning ride starts at the check-in office at 5601 Eagle Rock Ave NE in northeast Albuquerque, just off I-25. Meeting times are around 5:30–6:30 am, vary by month and are confirmed after booking. A van takes you to that day’s launch site, which changes with the weather, and you can help the crew inflate the balloon. You then spend 45 to 60 minutes in the air in a shared basket with about 10 to 16 passengers; up to 6 guests can go on one booking. The pilot chooses the route by the wind, so nothing is promised, but you may fly over the city, drop low over the Rio Grande and see the sun come up over the Sandia Mountains; the cottonwood bosque and, far off, Petroglyph National Monument may also come into view. After landing there is a champagne toast, light snacks and a commemorative flight certificate, and the van brings you back to the office. Plan on about 3 to 4 hours in total.
