A Hong Kong helicopter tour lifts you off a rooftop in Tsim Sha Tsui and, within minutes, puts Victoria Harbour<\/a>\u2019s skyline beside your window. Depending on the flight you choose, the city then gives way to the Big Buddha<\/a> on Lantau, the islands and bays of Sai Kung, the ridge of Lion Rock<\/a>, or Tolo Harbour<\/a> and the border in the north-east.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From street level it\u2019s easy to think of Hong Kong as nothing but towers. From the air you see the skyline sitting right next to ridges, beaches, bays and islands, and that contrast is the reason to fly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Victoria Harbour and the south side<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Most of these flights take in the harbour. On the shortest route you circle Hong Kong Island: the Victoria Harbour<\/a> skyline first, then the beaches and bays of the south side. It is the classic view of the city, and in 18 minutes it covers the postcard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tsing Ma Bridge and the Big Buddha<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Head west and you pass Tsing Ma Bridge, then Tian Tan Buddha<\/a> \u2014 the Big Buddha<\/a> \u2014 on Lantau, with Hong Kong International Airport and the outlying islands around it. You stay in the air; the flight doesn\u2019t land at Ngong Ping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sai Kung and the Geopark<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Head east and the towers give way to Sai Kung and Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark<\/a>: islands, bays, beaches and countryside. The route includes a flypast of Tsz Shan Monastery (Guanyin). Seeing the harbour\u2019s towers and this coastline on the same flight is what makes it memorable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lion Rock, Central and The Peak<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lion Rock<\/a> rises above Kowloon, and from the helicopter you see the ridge and the city below it together. The flight continues over Hong Kong Island \u2014 Central, The Peak, and the south-side beaches and villages, including Ocean Park when the route reaches it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tolo Harbour and the border<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The longest flight goes north-east over Tolo Harbour<\/a> toward Double Haven marine park and its fishing villages, then along the border: Yantian Port, Sha Tau Kok in the Frontier Closed Area, the Sham Chun River and Lo Wu Port, with Shenzhen on the other side. It returns past Lion Rock<\/a> to The Peninsula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
