Greenwich sits on the south bank of the Thames opposite the Isle of Dogs, home to the National Maritime Museum and a riverside of historic buildings and parkland. Further east, the Dome stands on its peninsula and the Thames Barrier spans the river. From the air this part of London is all water and open space compared with the centre. On the London<\/a> hub, Greenwich appears on the route map of one flight, and it helps to be precise about what that means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight is the London Olympic Park 45-Minute Private Helicopter Tour<\/a>, about 45 minutes in the air, from \u00a31,210 (GBP) per helicopter for up to 3 guests. Its named route follows the Thames through central London past the Houses of Parliament<\/a>, St Paul’s<\/a> and Tower Bridge<\/a>, then heads east past Canary Wharf<\/a> and the Olympic Park<\/a>. The route map includes Greenwich, the National Maritime Museum, the Dome, ExCeL and the Thames Barrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A route map is not a promise of a close pass. The helicopter’s exact track on the day is not fixed in advance, so Greenwich may be seen from a distance rather than directly below you, and the tour does not guarantee a set view of the museum or the Barrier. If Greenwich itself is the only reason you want to fly, keep that in mind, and treat anything you spot of the museum, the Dome or the Barrier as part of the wider view of east London. What the longer flight reliably adds is time over east London: about 45 minutes in the air, with Canary Wharf and the Olympic Stadium named on the route itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Olympic Park tour starts at Redhill Aerodrome in Surrey, about 20 miles (32 km) south of central London. It crosses the Surrey countryside and the M25, passes through the Heathrow control zone and joins the Thames at Barnes, then follows the river through the centre and east. It returns to Redhill via Croydon. The flight is private, so only your group is on board, and the price covers the whole helicopter. Tickets are non-refundable: there is no refund if you cancel. Everyone must check in online at least 48 hours before the flight with names, dates of birth, nationality, weights and photo ID details.
