The River Thames is the line every London helicopter route follows. From the air it becomes a map of the city: the wide bends of west London, then the run past Westminster and the South Bank, the bridges crowding together through the centre, and the loop around the Isle of Dogs further east. On the ground you see a stretch at a time. At about 1,000 feet, just above the height of the Shard, you follow it for miles. Be clear about where you start. The flights leave from Redhill Aerodrome in Surrey, about 20 miles (32 km) south of central London, not from the city itself. After take-off the helicopter heads north over the Surrey countryside and the M25, passes through the Heathrow control zone and joins the Thames at Barnes. From there the river leads you into central London, and on the way home the route returns to Redhill via Croydon. The river section is the heart of the flight, but the countryside crossing is part of it too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every flight is private, so the helicopter carries only your group, and the price covers the whole aircraft. There is no landing in London; you return to the aerodrome you left from. Tickets are non-refundable: all sales are final, and there is no refund if you cancel. Flights depend on suitable weather, and the pilot decides on the morning using an aviation forecast. If the weather is unsuitable, you are offered another date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting point is Hangar 1 at Redhill Aerodrome, Kings Mill Lane, Redhill RH1 5JY. Park in the roadside car park and follow the signs airside. There is no pickup. Everyone must check in online at least 48 hours before the flight, with names, dates of birth, nationality, weights and photo ID details. On the day, arrive 30 minutes early with photo ID. There is no room for bags on board, but you can leave items at the office.
