See Coronet Peak from the air \u2014 the ski field above Queenstown: runs, access road, and the Crown Range in one view, with the basin and the lake below. In winter the snow line is obvious; in summer it is bare slope and rock. From the field you get one face; from the helicopter you get the ski field sitting in the basin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 35-minute Grand Circle flies past the ski slopes on the basin circuit, with Lake Wakatipu<\/a> and the Shotover<\/a> canyons on the same outing, then an alpine landing<\/a>. The 25-minute Helicopter Tour with Alpine Landing does not guarantee Coronet \u2014 the pilot sets that track. The 50-minute Southern Glacier heads west to Mount Aspiring National Park<\/a> and does not include this ski-field pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You do not land on the ski field and you do not ride a chairlift. You see Coronet from the helicopter, then continue to the alpine landing. This is not a ski day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The extra minutes on the Grand Circle are what make Coronet a named part of the Queenstown<\/a> outing instead of a possible extra on the short flight. Stay on the 25-minute tour if you want the landing more than the basin circuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want glaciers and national-park ice rather than this ski-field pass, that is the 50-minute product. Coronet belongs to the 35-minute basin circuit, not to the Alps west of Glenorchy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Crown Range sits behind the ski field, so the aerial view is runs plus the next range, not just one face of snow. That is a winter and a summer picture. The Grand Circle is the ticket that names it. The short flight does not promise it. The Southern Glacier does not sell it. This is a pass from the air, not a ski day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
