See Mount Everest from the air \u2014 a dark pyramid of rock and snow above the Khumbu, with Lhotse and Nuptse as the walls beside it. From Kathmandu it is a distant white line; from the balloon-height of a helicopter it is a single peak you can read. You see it from the Khumbu, not from the summit. The mountain stays in the frame while the glacier and the camp sit below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All three Mount Everest<\/a> flights look at it. The private Base Camp tour, the tour with landings, and the tour with breakfast all fly the Khumbu with Everest in the frame. You do not land on the summit. Everest Base Camp<\/a> and Kala Patthar<\/a> are the near ground; Khumbu Glacier<\/a> is the ice under the face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You do not trek to Gorak Shep and you do not stand on the top. This is a helicopter view of the mountain, then a landing elsewhere on the same outing \u2014 Kala Patthar, the hotel, or a pad the weather allows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The extra on the landings and breakfast listings is time on the ground in front of the peak, not a closer summit pass. Weather still decides how near the helicopter can go. Hotel Everest View<\/a> is the breakfast terrace after the high country, not a substitute for the mountain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The private tour is sold with a Kala Patthar stop. The landings listing offers a photo stop at Kala Patthar or the camp as an option \u2014 weather, and an extra charge. The breakfast tour lands at Kala Patthar or a nearby pad, subject to weather and regulations. None of those tickets put you on the summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lhotse and Nuptse are the walls; Everest is the pyramid between them. You see that from the Khumbu, from a height the helicopter can hold, not from 8,848 metres. The landing, when it happens, is a ridge or a hotel terrace, not the summit. Weather can still keep you in the air for the whole high country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
